Architect Associate/Design Professional

Design Alaska is looking for an Architect Associate/Design Professional to join our team. The selected Architect Associate/Design Professional’s duties involve:

  • Design work from concept design through construction documents.
  • Site Investigations and writing investigative reports of existing facilities.
  • Construction job site inspections and observation.
  • Occasional in-state travel, including remote Alaskan locations, for site visits.
  • Quality control reviews of design/construction documents.
  • Provide support to project team and others as required.
  • Coordination of project details with other disciplines on team.
  • Construction cost estimating.

  • 5-year bachelor of architecture or master of architecture degree from an NAAB accredited institution.
  • Able to pursue licensure in state of Alaska.

Architect Associate/Design Professional

Mechanical Engineer

Design Alaska is looking for a charismatic Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

Mechanical Engineering duties typically include:

  • Site Investigations and writing investigative reports
  • Planning and design of mechanical HVAC systems, plumbing systems, building control systems, utilities, and fire protection including equipment selection, calculations, system layout, code compliance, and drafting
  • Working with a team of designers to develop creative solutions.
  • Construction cost estimating
  • Construction administration and construction inspections
  • Occasional in-state travel is required for site visits

Mechanical Engineer Application

Structural Engineer

Design Alaska is looking for an enthusiastic and charismatic Structural Engineer to join our team.

Structural Engineering duties typically include:

  • Foundation design for site-specific soils including footings, adjustable elevated piles, and mat applications.
  • Analysis of applicable code provisions for the facility including essential facilities for government projects.
  • Design of economic and constructible structural system to accommodate the intended use of the facility.
  • Detailed structural analysis of members and entire system using simulation products such as RISA 3D.
  • Construction cost estimating. Overseeing construction progress and special inspections.
  • Occasional in-state travel is required to investigate existing structures and ongoing construction.

In addition to the general attributes listed above that we seek in all of our new hires, the attributes that Design Alaska seeks in applicants for this position include:

  • Interest in the seismic performance of structures. 
  • Demonstrated performance of detailed analysis and organization of a complex system.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university, with structure coursework.
  • Autodesk Revit or similar 3D modeling software experience.

Civil Engineer

Design Alaska is looking for an enthusiastic and charismatic Civil Engineer to join our team.

Civil Engineering duties typically include:

  • Potential site investigations including existing vegetation, soils, utility, and road access.
  • Interpretation of geotechnical data obtained from borings and pothole investigations and frozen soils.
  • Design of transportation networks and building sites to accommodate vehicles and people in arctic locations.
  • Analysis of storm water, drinking water, wastewater, solid waste, and hazardous material impact on design.
  • Construction cost estimating. Overseeing construction projects and progress inspections.
  • Occasional in-state travel is required for site visits.

  • Demonstrate ability to self-learn diverse topics over the breath of civil engineering. 
  • Interest in environmental engineering to protect public from contaminated soils, asbestos, lead, and pcb’s.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Autodesk AutoCAD and Civil 3D or similar software experience.

Land Surveyor

Design Alaska is looking for a Land Surveyor to join our team.

Land Surveying duties typically include:

  • Construction staking for utilities, road layout, foundations, grading, and volume calculations.
  • Residential surveys for plot plans, subdivisions, and boundary surveys.
  • Topographic surveys, monitor well surveys, and utility asbuilts.
  • Working in the field as a party chief or rodman.
  • Working in the office for research, calculations, and drafting.

Design Alaska seeks these desirable attributes in land surveyor applicants:

  • College degree in land surveying from an ABET accredited curriculum.
  • or 5 years of field surveying experience or equivalent experience related to the job duties.
  • Autodesk Civil 3D software experience.
  • Familiar with GIS and aerial mapping.

Land Surveyor Application

Engineering Intern

Design Alaska is looking for interns who are career-minded university students and have completed their sophomore year in an engineering degree program to join our team. We challenge our interns with interesting projects and provide them with opportunities for personal and professional growth. Intern duties typically include drafting with AutoCAD software, the design of spaces and systems, construction cost estimating, technical report writing, and visits to construction sites. No specific number of Intern positions are open. The number of Intern positions offered will depend primarily on work load and applicant quality. This offering is open until available Intern positions are filled.

  • University student in an engineering major who will have completed sophomore year coursework.
  • Drafting software experience.
