Alaska Air National Guard Composite Maintenance Facility Eielson AFB, Alaska |
This project was designed for the Alaska Air National
Guard located on Eielson Air Force Base. It includes an aircraft hangar
and several associated
maintenance shops, offices, and support facilities. The structural aspects most
notable for this structure are the 190 feet clear span built-up girders used to resist
vertical loadings from dead loads, snow loads, equipment loads, and seismic and wind
loadings. The design of these girders is thoroughly state of the art.
Extremely large plate elements were required to build these structural elements, and as
such, quality control during construction was very important. The design of
weldments required special attention to assure that stress concentrations and laminar
tearing phenomena are properly accounted for. Diagonal bracing necessary to prevent
lateral torsional buckling effects were incorporated into the design. |
This project also included a waste oil disposal system. The design complies with the EPA regulations for the design and installation of underground storage tanks including double wall tank construction, double wall piping, and annular space leak detection. |
