Design Alaska was the Architect/Engineer firm for the design and construction of the Northern Lights Inn at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This three story facility provides temporary living quarters to newly assigned soldiers and their families when they arrive at Fort Wainwright. We’re proud of our role in this facility being selected as the 2005 Army Lodging Operation of the Year (large facility category).

The $14.5M project was accomplished through a Design-Build contract with the US Army Corps of Engineers for the US Army Community and Family Support Center. The facility has ninety rooms total. Forty five of the rooms are extended stay units with adjoining rooms that can accommodate soldiers with dependents. The facility also houses the Fort Wainwright lodging staff offices, laundry facilities, and a food preparation/serving area.

Design Alaska provided Architectural; Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, and Environmental Engineering design services. The Design-Build project was completed through fast-track scheduling and finished two months ahead of schedule.
