Fire Protection Engineering
The Fire Protection Department has multiple registered professional engineers that meet the requirements of a Qualified Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE) as required for major Federal Government projects. Our fire protection engineering experience covers all areas of life safety design including passive (fire-resistive construction, egress, code analysis, hazmat analysis) as well as fire suppression and fire alarm / mass notification. The team has experience designing fire suppression systems including water-based automatic sprinkler (commercial and residential), fire pumps and water storage tanks, and water mist, as well as special hazard design including high expansion foam, chemical extinguishment, and gaseous agents. Our team owns equipment to perform hydrant flow testing in accordance with NFPA 291 and performs flow testing to support our design of fire protection system. The department also has extensive experience designing and commissioning fire alarm and mass notification systems. In addition to design and testing duties, the team serves as fire protection plan reviewers for multiple jurisdictions and has the capacity to perform both life safety and building code analyses for new and existing facilities.
